Week 12 - October 1, 2019 “First Transfer”

As hard as days can get sometimes I would be lying if I said weeks haven’t started to fly by!

I had a pretty good week! Teaching was really fun! We have 5 people really progressing, 2 with baptismal dates already set and the other 3 we are hoping to fix this week. My teaching has gotten a lot better and I can teach lessons 1, the gospel of Jesus Christ, 2 the plan of salvation, and 3 the restoration. It’s super exciting and definitly a huge blessing I have progressed this fast.My goal is to be able to train after training.

Speaking of teaching lessons I had a super weird thing happen during one of them this week. We were teaching this lesson and all the sudden these brown things started dropping on my Book of Mormon pages. It was just like brown water so I started looking for a roof where water could be dripping off of but all I could see was an electrical wire overhead. As the drops continued to fall I looked a little closer, I started seeing a bunch of flies chilling on this electrical wire. I then asked what all these drops were coming fom and the investigator and Elder Ayinde told me it was fly poop. So now I have fly poop all over my 3 Nephi 24. All the while this was happening the mom we were teaching was yelling at her son to beat one of her other sons who kept interupting us. She was saying things like break his bones, bruise him I’ll  buy medicine later. I was just like sheesh, but that’s actually just how they discipline here. That was just an action packed lesson. But all the lessons we teach are exciting. 2 other lessons that were interesting was one where a guy was starving and didn’t have any money. That was really hard to answer and the other was we were trying to help a guy realize the importance of marriage. When we were teaching about marriage I kinda just started laughing because I was like this is so crazy that I am an 18 year old kid and teaching this guy about marriage. Not gonna lie Elder Ayinde carried that lesson.

I got to play piano at church again this week... for half the time that is. The bishop gave me 4 hymns I was gonna play so I could practice; so I toitlly prepared to play these 4 hymns. I played the first 2 really well then all the sudden in the middle of sacrament meeting the chorister got up and chnaged the last 2 hymns. I was just like what the heck. So I just sat there and didn’t play the last 2 songs because I didn’t know them. The chorister didn't like the last 2 songs I guess so she just switched them. That’s the kinda weird stuff that people do here during church. As much as it is the same their are small little weird things where it is different. I officially finished my first transfer this week. It was really exciting but also really hard. Friday night was really hard just thinking about how on Monday some americans would be flying home to their families and it would be the best day ever and I still am here for a while but its ok. I have learned to much and had too many miracles happen to me to give up. Seriously at 18 years old I have learned how to completely take care of myself, african style. I have learned how to study the scriptures, I have been thrown into a different world and been forced to deal with it. Most importantly I now know that God loves me and that he hears my prayers. That’s only a small amount of things on a super long list. It’s pretty amazing. I should be getting 2 more americans in my apartment which is super exciting. It’ll be so nice to be able to make food and stuff with them; I'm so excited. Again I just want to thank all of you for all your prayers for me. I feel them I really do. Its a HUGE blessing. I hope you all know how much Jesus Christ and God love you. Its more than any of us could ever know and I get a little teary even thinking about it.
love,
Elder Freedman
